OVERVIEW
Arbitration in the UAE has recently undergone a massive reform with significant amendments being made to the Federal Arbitration Law No. 6 of 2018. Efficiency, flexibility and accessibility by international and domestic parties are the underlying themes of the reforms introduced. Allowing parties to conduct arbitration proceedings virtually reflects the adoption of the rising trend of using online platforms and overcoming the challenges of geographical borders. The arbitration tribunal is now vested with increased powers and discretion to decide the nature and evidence presented during the hearing while imposing certain obligations and challenges. The recent reforms align UAE’s arbitration law with international standards and requires various stakeholders to comply with the changes.
