LexisNexis Rule of Law Foundation, in partnership with Maha Bin Hendi Law Firm, Diana Hamade Attorneys at Law and the DIFC Academy, are pleased to invite you to join us for a conference with the Lady Justice of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales, Sarah Asplin, on 27 October 2019 to discuss the UAE Hybrid Legal System.

The conference will start with a keynote speech by Maha Bin Hendi, Managing Partner at Maha Bin Hendi Law Firm followed by two separate panel discussions moderated by Diana Hamade, Managing Partner at Diana Hamade Attorneys at Law. Judge Mohammed Al Subosi from Dubai Courts and Judges Nassir Al Nasser and Maha Al Mehairi from Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts will join both panel discussions alongside Lady Justice Sarah Asplin.

Audience members will be allowed time during both panel discussions to ask questions and learn from the experience of all panellists.

10:15 to 11:00	Panel discussion 1 – Exploring the unique Dubai court system During this panel discussion, we will focus on: The unique nature of the Dubai court system, where lawyers are Civil Law experts, and follow the Common Law system in the DIFC Free Zone. The history of this unique hybrid system. The nuances of the Dubai court system which differs from the UK court system. The history and elements of the Common Law system.

11:15 to 12:00	Panel discussion 2 – Achieving a Judicial Career: The Steps and Stages of Service During this panel discussion we will address how one sets a career path to become a UAE or Dubai court judge. Lady Justice Sarah Asplin will also speak during this panel about the challenges she has had as a female judge and how she overcame challenges to succeed in her calling.
