AGENDA

The course is divided into two sessions:

  • Session 1 covers the foundations of courtroom advocacy. It introduces participants to the roles of judges, clerks, advocates, and witnesses, as well as courtroom setup and procedural matters. Do’s and don’ts and importance of preparation, practical tips and guidance for effective advocacy and speaking.
  • Session 2 focuses on trial advocacy skills. It explores preparation for hearings, developing case strategies, and the essentials of persuasive advocacy. It covers skeleton arguments, duties to the court, examination-in-chief, cross-examination, re-examination, handling expert witnesses, and delivering closing submissions. Practical guidance is given on preparation, do’s and dont’s, and adapting to judicial cues.

Together, the sessions provide a structured introduction to both the professional responsibilities and practical skills required for effective courtroom advocacy.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key roles, procedures, and etiquette of courtroom advocacy
  • Apply preparation techniques by developing structured case strategies
  • Demonstrate trial skills, including examination-in-chief, cross-examination, and closing submissions
